Our love of dinosaurs doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon, especially since one of J’s first words was “roar” (and yes, I’m totally counting animal noises as words even though developmentally they probably don’t!). It’s actually quite cute, if you ask him what a dinosaur says, he gives you this big roar and laughs. I’m glad my kids have learned to laugh at their own jokes because then who cares if anyone else thinks you’re funny. Personally, I think I’m hysterical but my husband may tell you otherwise. 😉
Anyways, we made these cute dinosaurs the other day. I was inspired by Linda at Little Family Fun. It was a great review of shapes and I liked that it was pretty open ended. Your little ones can design their very own dinosaur (or any animal for that matter) with the shapes so the possibilities are endless.
To do this, you will need:
- Green foam (or construction paper)
- White card stock
I pre-cut the shapes before we started. For 1 dinosaur, I had one large half circle, a few rectangles and squares, some circles in varying sizes and a few triangles.
M and I had fun putting together different dinosaurs before settling on our final creations, which were glued down. Since we use construction paper for crafts most of the time, M thought it was really neat using the foam material instead and has asked that we use it again. It seemed to take on an entirely new dimension since it was a new material, I’ll have to remember to mix it up every once in a while.
Once we were done, they were mailed off to her Uncle as his birthday card, which was fine with me since I can only display so much artwork at one time! Speaking of displaying artwork, I’m determined to find a new/more practical way to display the art my kids keep creating. I’d love any suggestions if you’ve found something that works for you!
We have just about finished up our first officially week of school and I’m so excited to share it with you in the next few days.
