Happy Earth Day! To celebrate, we decided to make some yummy treats for our bird friends to enjoy as well as this simple and quick bird feeder. If you’re looking for a quick project that gets your little ones excited, check it out. The kids can help put it together or just enjoy setting it up outside and watching the birds that come to enjoy it.
You will need the following:
- Empty container (this can literally be anything you have lying around although plastic is probably easiest as you will need to cut a few sections. This morning, we had an empty yogurt container so that’s what we used!)
- Duct tape
- Scissor or knife
- Bird seed
To start, clean and dry your container. If your little one is anything like mine, they will jump at the chance to clean some dishes!
Then cut two small holes towards the top to attach your string as well as a large opening towards the bottom for the bird to access the seeds.
To “decorate” the container, cover it in duct tape. If you have multiple colors, you could really step up the aesthetics but since we only had yellow on hand, that’s what we used.
Once the duct tape was on, we attached the string and filled it with the bird seed. Then we went outside to hang it on the tree in our front yard.
The only thing left to do was wait and watch for some bird friends to come by. (I didn’t have the heart to tell M the birds wouldn’t show up with her standing right next to it!)
Check back later this week to see what other Earth Day activities we’ve been up to!
