A few months ago I decided to de-clutter our home with the hope of starting the new year fresh. I wanted to simplify our home so we could simplify our lives. So often these days the focus is on things and stuff, which really isn’t very important in the big picture. While deciding to do this in the middle of the holiday season may not have been my best idea, I’m happy to say I’ve been able to cross off all but 3 of the items on my to-do list.
In the process, I’ve donated multiple bags to the local Goodwill as well as thrown out countless bags of garbage. It was amazing to see the amount of stuff we’ve accumulated that we either don’t use or have multiples of. The few places left to go are:
- Master bedroom/closet – I’ve been procrastinating with this one. I keep thinking I should wait until I’m not breastfeeding because then I may keep more than I’m currently wearing. The truth is that this stage of my life isn’t changing any time soon so I should just do it. I’m going to try to get this done in the next week.
- Basement closet – No excuses here. I simply haven’t gone downstairs to clean it out. It’s filled with baby gear – jumpers, toys, etc. As J is getting older, we’ve been taking more out so I kind of expect this one to take care of itself over the next month or so.
- Laundry room – I purposely put this off. For Christmas, the hubs and I decided to re-do our laundry room (new washer/dryer = amazing!). Our laundry room also doubles as a sort of pantry so it will be great to give this room a refreshing new look. I’d like it to be a bright, inviting space instead of the dreary mess that it is now, especially since I spend an inordinate amount of time in there 🙂
