M is too young to grasp the history behind Thanksgiving, but I don’t think it is too early to teach the concept of being thankful. To help illustrate this for her, we created a Tree of Thanks that we have been adding to throughout the month.
To start, I simply cut out a tree trunk and branches from brown construction paper. You can tell I’m obviously no artist, but you get that it’s a tree. Every couple of days, we choose one person or thing that we are thankful for. This goes on the leaf and is added to our tree.
The first leaf, was for M herself and it has evolved since then to included all of our immediate family members, pets, friends, etc. It has been fun watching M think of things to add to our tree and has also served as a reminder for myself that our life is full of things to be thankful for. It also doubles as a lovely fall decoration in our kitchen. 🙂
